ReWild Perth pays respect to the Traditional Custodians of our region, the Whadjuk, Ballardong and Yued people of the Noongar Nation and their Elders past and present. We acknowledge and respect their continuing culture and the contribution they make to the life of this city and region. What is ReWilding?

‘Rewilding’ is a global movement that aims to restore natural ecosystems.

In some contexts, this refers to the reintroduction of long-lost species and is usually done in national parks by governments and scientists.

ReWild Perth takes a different approach that involves you. In our urban setting, we concentrate on our homes and gardens, which can recreate environments that will support the native wildlife we have displaced.

This is particularly important in urban areas like Metropolitan Perth, Peel and Bunbury, because homes and residential buildings make up more than half of the available land. Very few ‘green spaces’ remain, and most of it is reserved for people as landscaped parks or ovals.

While our patch of the planet is home to an amazing variety of plants and animals, we’ve lost or displaced many species which once called Perth home, including some which could only be found here! ReWild Perth gives you the opportunity to take charge of your space and bring nature home.

Who is behind ReWild Perth?

ReWild Perth has been developed in partnership with Perth NRM and Birdlife Australia (WA), through funding from Lotterywest.

Perth NRM is a registered charitable non-government organisation, involved with the environment, sustainability and food production within and for the people of the Greater Perth region, delivering many projects for the Federal and State governments.

Birdlife Australia are the peak body for bird conservation in Australia, dedicated to advocacy, research and partnerships that ensure the protection of our native birds, their habitats and their vital role in our ecosystems.

Both organisations work with the community, volunteers, researchers and citizen scientists.

ReWild has been developed to make it easy for you to bring nature home.
